I have started something I up to now have never considered. It's a new goal if you will. I am trying to respect copy write laws.
Don't worry I won't judge you if you don't feel the same. Its just something I'm trying.
It was like the other day I thought "I'm poor. I'm an artist. Artists are poor. I should support my fellow artists and actually contribute to their pay checks in my own small way."
And with that I gave up pirated entertainment. Which was stupid. Because I take certain stories very seriously and watch them over and over and over. Seriously one time my brother came and we were flipping through the channels-- because why would we actually talk to each other when we could watch TV-- and PBS was randomly playing one of my favorite episodes of my absolute favorite TV series. My brother being so generous let me watch it. Probably because of the incredibly interesting and detailed summary of the first 8.3 minutes we'd missed. He had to see it! I had him hooked, right?
Anyway, it didn't take him long to realize I was reciting the lines with the characters. Then I started saying the lines before the characters just to see if I remembered the lines perfectly.
I'm sure it did annoy him. But he has been annoyed by me for years so it probably wasn't as bad as some things he's put up with.
Moral of long boring story? I was still hooked on the story, even though I knew it virtually word for word. I am a pretty picky auidence or reader. But I tend to love for a very long time.
Well, my obscure tastes means its hard for me to actually get a hold of the shows I like ethically. Yeah, didn't think this "Support the Artists" choice through.
So today I went into town and was lucky enough to find series one of Ashes to Ashes at a used book and DVD store. How lucky was that!?? Not lucky. It felt like nothing short of divine intervention.
Seriously, cop drama/fantasy set in absurd-ist 80s London!!!! I love this series!!!
Then later in the day I went to a slightly punk looking music store... which had some DVDs too... and it had a boxed set of series 1-3(the only ones that count in my not as humble as it should be opinion) of Being Human!!UK version.
So I was pretty happy with the way this turned out. Then I realized I hadn't actually supported artists with my purchases. Because I bought them both used. You can have everything.
What does this have to do with Ireland? It's my blog about my adventures. These purchases happened in Galway. There you go.
